Mad Mandvi

Next day we left early again and this time we took the road to south to reach Mandvi Beach. Ok, I have to admit although the road to Rann was fantastic but the road to Mandvi was stunning from the word go. It crosses many small hills, hence the roads are curvy and go high and low surrounded surprisingly with more greenery around you. On the way there are couple of tiny villages to stop and have chai.

60km southwest of Bhuj which can be covered in one hour forty five minutes to be precise is the stunning tiny filled with history village called Mandvi lies. But instead of going directly to the beach we first went to see Vijay Vilas Palace, where we wander around and marvel at the items brought from far-off ports, and the architecture itself that shows a global awareness in its mixture of styles. Or recreate your favourite scene from Lagaan or Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, both of which have scenes filmed at the palace. It is a concise yet intricate palace wherein you will spend close to an hour or so. Although not very clear but one can see the sea from the roof of the palace.

Head back to the tiny village to have a delicious unlimited Gujarati Thali for lunch before taking the road to the beach.

The beach is where all the action takes place. Its crowded, filthy and very big. Its filled with women and kids screaming while having camel/horse rides. Look out for the way these animals are decorated. The must try here is the Kutchi Dabeli. Must!

Leave early if you are on bike as there are no street lights on the way back to Bhuj!
