Monsoon has always brought out the best in everyone, especially for those who are in love. Whether its in the form of lyrics, songs, romance, art or sensuality, the possibilities have always been there to explore. And for that matter, our very own Bollywood has exploited the formula to the hilt and have always been an inseparable elements, so much so that it won't be wrong to say, "Rains and Bollywood has been synonymous since infinite".
For the audience to see their favourite stars getting drenched was full 'paisa-wasool' on the screen. The producers definitely cash in on the attraction. But then not every song was there without the purpose, or did not add to the beauty of the film. Yash Chopra always had a rain sequence to make his heroines look more sensual and sexy!
We do have our favourites and 'that moment' with a particular rain song in the Hindi films. I too have mine. Here is my list…..
Sridevi never looked so soaked as she was in Chandni. Here in the song, Lagi aaj sawan ki…..from the same film.
The iconic, trend-setter song ever pictured on the silver screen of Bollywood. The blue chiffon sari, the invisible hero (how we love that) and the hawttt Sridevi. Uffff!!!! Kate nahin kay-tey…from Mr India
Najane kahan se aayii hai…. another preppy and fun song of Sridevi from the fantastic ChaalBaaz
Lamhe would had been incomplete if this song was not there. Megha re megha…introduces the very indian Sridevi in Lamhe.
One of my other favourite rain song from Chandni. Parbat se kali ghata…..
Their chemistry was at the peak and one can sense that in this tip tip barsa paani… pictured on the burning Raveena and the melting Akshay from Mohra
Madhuri Dixit never had many rain songs, but then I was a big fans of Mukul S Anand way of picturing the crowd, and here too he did it brilliantly in Maha Sangram I love you song
Sensual Smita and angry Bachchan from the evergreen Aaj rapat jaye…from Namak Halal
Brilliantly pictured on Amitabh and Moushmi, enjoying in the real rains of Mumbai, this song, Rimjhim gire sawan…speaks of the love the city witness during those three months.
The list is so incomplete without the mention of the most ancient and epic rain songs. Pyar hua ikhraar hua….. Raj Kapoor and Nargis
Happy Monsoon
