Dugga Dugga

The otherwise bustling with shoppers, Lokhandwala Street adorn a festive look to bring in Durga Ma for the ongoing Durgostav 2013 at the Lokhandwala grounds, Mumbai.

As expected the venue was throng with bongs in every shape and size paying respect to the strongest goddesses seen on the land of Bharat.

So, like last year, I was there in full spirits expecting magic. And yes I was not let down by it. The fascinating figure of Durga really puzzles me with 10 arms, each indicating a fact that women are multi-tasking form of strength, patients, passion, love and if rub the wrong way, strong enough to put the evil in its right place. Its so amazing to see your own mother, sister, wife or friend actually the living example of the deity.

As an internal part of the puja, many young and old men were playing drums aka dhak, in perfect foot tapping synch.

The dhak is a huge membranophone instrument from India. The shapes differ from the almost cylindrical to the barrel. The manner of stretching the hide over the mouths and lacing also varies. It suspended from the neck, tied to the waist and kept on the lap or the ground, and usually played with wooden sticks. The left side is coated to give it a heavier sound.

Although as an artist am more in male form, but besides my own mother, I have painted Durga only for its sheer powerful form.

Here's sharing some pictures clicked by me including the painting that i did in 2008.

Happy Durgostav!
